Examples of A2 format supports

Because of its medium size, the A2 format is useful for the realization of many communication supports. It allows to obtain a visual big enough to be easily noticeable without being too bulky.

  • The A2 format is ideal for printing media that will be installed outdoors such as advertising posters or sidewalk posters.
  • The A2 format is also very well suited to printing media placed inside a store but visible through the window, for example a large sticker or a decorative poster. Note that at Copymage, we offer you the option Express poster which allows you to print your promotional posters in A2 format in 4 hours, including the day before the sales!
  • The use of A2 format is very common in the advertising world because it allows the realization of posters offering a good visibility without being too imposing.
  • Construction professionals frequently use the A2 format for printing architectural or construction plans.
  • Finally, this A2 format allows you to design essential elements of an original marketing campaign. For example, we suggest you use this A2 format to create a wall calendar with your company's colors that you can then offer to your customers and partners to make them think of you all year long.

The A2 format: the most compact of the large formats

In France and in Europe, we use the ISO 216 standard to categorize the sizes of the sheets of paper. This standard is written by adding a number to the letter A.

The reference format is named A0 format. It measures 841 × 1189 mm and has a printable area of 1 square meter. The following variations, A1, A2, A3, etc., designate sheets of paper each measuring half the size of the previous one:

  • The width of a sheet A0 is the same size as the length of the sheet A1
  • The width of an A1 sheet is the same size as the length of the A2 sheet
  • The width of an A2 sheet is the same size as the length of the A3 sheet

The A2 format is a medium format that can be useful for printing many communication materials, such as posters or medium size posters, calendars or stickers.

The dimensions of the A2 format

An A2 sheet measures 420 x 594 mm.

  • The A2 format is between the A1 format (594 x 841 mm) and the A3 format (297 × 420).
  • The A2 format is 4 times smaller than the reference format A0, i.e. 4 sheets of A2 format placed side by side form an A0 format.

Also, the A2 format is 4 times larger than the classic A4 format, i.e.there are the equivalent of 4 A4 sheets in an A2 format.

Some questions about the A2 format

What finishes for an A2 poster?

First of all, you have to choose the paper weight of your A2 poster:

  • For an A2 poster to be framed, you can opt for a 135 or 170 g/m2 paper weight , thin and economical.
  • To be able to hang your A2 poster directly on the wall, we advise you to choose a 240 g/m2 paper weight.
  • Finally, very qualitative and very resistant, the 300 g/m2 paper is a top-of-the-range paper which offers a real hold to your posters in A2 format.

Then, these papers are available in matte or glossy version:

  • Matte paper gives a modern and natural look to your poster.
  • The glossy paper offers a rendering close to a photo paper, more sophisticated.

Finally, accompanied by your professional printer, you can finalize your A2 poster by choosing finishes such as lamination, laminating or lamination.

  • Laminating is a protective layer of your communication support in A2 format while participating in its ennoblement. The lamination embellishes the images and allows contrasting colors, which is an important issue to achieve a striking poster.
  • The lamination consists in sticking your communication support in A2 format on a support which can be in PVC, aluminium or foam to bring a great rigidity and give relief to your creation.
  • The lamination allows to protect your A2 format support from humidity as well as from rough handling.

How to prepare a print in A2 format?

To ensure that you get exactly the result you want, we suggest that you check three key points before you start printing your A2 media:

  • Have you checked the resolution of the images that make up your project in A2 format? To obtain images of impeccable quality, we recommend a resolution of 300 dpi.
  • Have you considered including a 5mm bleed and a 5mm neutral zone around the edges of your A2 print? The bleed is to ensure that your poster will not have any unintended white edges. The neutral zone ensures that the text and illustrations of your project remain outside of the cutting areas.
  • Did you useCMYK colorimetry and not RGB for your A2 printing? The RGB colorimetry is the one which is used by default on the computers on which you prepare your projects. However, there are differences in tints between this RGB system and the CMYK system which is used in printing which can cause disappointments at the time of the printing of your A2 format support.

If in doubt, at Copymage we check all your files for free before printing. So there's never a bad surprise!
