The place card, an essential support for a successful event

You have set the date of your wedding, chosen a venue, drawn up the guest list? Now it's time to think about the seating plan and therefore order your place cards. Although they may seem secondary, name tags are in fact extremely important as they allow each guest to feel at ease and have a good time surrounded by people they know and appreciate.

If we cannot take care of the table plan for you, we can still help you by printing your personalised place cards: thanks to our high-performance machines, we canprint your name tags in just 4 hours, while offering you personalisation options such as gilding or different types of lamination. Available from 25 copies, the printing of name tags will enable you to ensure that your event, even a small one, takes place in the best possible conditions while keeping your budget under control.

Mostly used at private events, they can also be useful at conferences or business meetings, especially when there are a large number of participants who do not know each other. Indeed, when placed upside down, the place card will make the name of each participant visible and will greatly facilitate exchanges for a more efficient meeting or conference.

The different printing options and formats

Going through a professional printer like COPYMAGE for the printing of your place cards allows you to benefit from a wide range of options to personalise your support, so don't hesitate to call on us. Your name tags can be printed in black and white or in colour , depending on your wishes and the style you wish to give them. You can also choose to print only the front side or choose a double-sided option to personalise all sides of your place card.

As for the format of your place card to be printed, here are the options we offer you:

  • The simple format, 85 x 54 mm, which corresponds to the format of a business card or credit card
  • The double folded format, 85.5 x 108 mm (when opened), which offers the possibility of forming an easel and therefore of holding the placemark alone without a stand

However, if none of these options are suitable for your project, we can also print your place cards to the dimensions of your choice. You can also choose the shape of the cut-out (heart, leaf, round, square, etc.).

Our name tags are printed on a stiff 350g paper, which makes them strong and allows them to stand upright without bending. The paper is available in both matt and glossy versions, so you can choose what suits you best and then consider any finishing touches you may want to give your place card.

Make your name tags stand out with the finishing touches

Added after the printing of your name tags, the finishing touches are designed to make them more original and to ensure that they correspond exactly to the theme of your reception and the message you wish to convey. Here are the different options we offer:

  • Gilding: added to text, around an image or to create a frame around the name tag, gilding is ideal for parties but also to add a prestigious touch to a support.
  • Selective varnish: applied to certain elements only, selective varnish will add shine or relief (3D selective varnish) to your support by highlighting the name of the bride and groom, the table number or a pictogram representing a cake for example.
  • Laminating: this option consists of adding a very thin plastic film to your name tag in order to modify its appearance and make it more shiny or more matt. Soft-touch lamination offers a semi-matt finish and a very high quality velvet touch.

Good to know: we advise you not to apply finishes on the parts you intend to write on with a pen or felt-tip pen, as the ink may smudge or dry badly.

Frequently asked questions about the place card

How can you ensure that the result is both attractive and practical?

To ensure that your place card is not only useful but also part of your decoration, we advise you to match it to the rest of the elements, especially in terms of colours and the theme of the event. Are you organising a country wedding? Choose name tags with leaves or flowers. For a classic christening, you can opt for a plain white holder, with a few gold accents for a result that is both festive and distinguished!

For the layout, you can simply write the names of your guests using pretty pens and your best handwriting, or add the table number as well. By the way, to make it easier for guests to find their way around, some people choose to put the place cards on a table at the entrance of the reception hall, letting each guest find their name and go to the table indicated on a map.

Finally, don't hesitate to make this a souvenir that your guests can take away with them by adding, on the back or inside, something more personal such as a photo, a quote or a message of thanks.

What do you need to consider for a perfect print?

You are not used to having materials printed and are afraid of making a mistake? Don't worry, at COPYMAGE, we systematically check each file free of charge before printing. This way, our advisors can contact you as soon as possible if there are any problems. Nevertheless, we still advise you to send us your file in PDF format, and to respect certain rules:

  • If you wish to add selective varnish or gold to the place card to be printed, your file must include an additional color configured in "direct tone", which you will have named "varnish" or "gold", so that we know exactly where to apply these finishes.
  • In order to avoid your name tag being truncated when printed or cut, it is essential to include cut lines and bleeds. If these terms don't mean anything to you or you don't know how to apply them, you can refer to the guide at the bottom of every page on our site.
  • To ensure that your print is of high quality and that all the elements are perfectly legible, we advise you to use gold and varnish sparingly. Also, make sure you choose a legible font if you add text( minimum0.5 point font , minimum 7 point size ).

If you have any questions about our printing methods or about any aspect of your order, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone or email, or even come and meet our advisors directly in our print shop located at 8 rue Saint Roch in Paris.

How do I place the place cards?

In recent years, there has been a trend towards DIY ( "Do It Yourself") decoration for private events such as birthdays and weddings. For this reason, many people choose to make their own simple place card holders using , for example, wooden logs or cords . However, you can also use commercially available glass holders or even just place each name tag on a plate or against a glass to save time. Double name tags do not need a stand as they stand on their own when folded into an easel.
