Number of folds and folding systems available

When we talk about an A4 leaflet, we are talking about the format of the leaflet when it is opened: at this point it is 29.7 cm long and 21 cm wide. To obtain a leaflet, this sheet of paper is folded into two or three sections depending on the desired result:

• The A4 folder with 2 flaps has a single fold in the centre lengthways, known as the single fold, and gives a folder with a format of 14.8 x 21 cm when closed.
• The A4 3-panel leaflet has two folds to divide the material into three equal areas, resulting in a 9.9 x 21 cm format when closed.

The two-page leaflet is the most common and also the most economical. It has four customisable sides. It is easy to read and allows the reader direct access to the information it contains by opening it.

The 3 or 4-part model is called a triptych leaflet and offers six or eight customisable sides . More original but also more expensive, this model offers more folding possibilities. Here are the different types of folds that can be made with an A4 tri-fold leaflet:

• The rolled fold: classic and effective, this folding allows a progressive discovery of the information and thus helps to keep the reader's attention who wants to discover the elements that he does not see at first glance.
• Accordion folding: this zigzag folding system forms a folder similar to a map. It is often used in restaurant menus because it allows you to organise the reading by stage: appetizers, starters, main courses, desserts, drinks.
• Window folding: consisting of two flaps that open onto an inside page, like flaps that open onto a window, this leaflet provides a large surface on the back to display the company's logo and contact details, as well as its slogan for example.
• The cross fold: more original, this fold consists of folding the A4 sheet twice, forming a cross with the two folds. Less used than the others, it allows the reader to be surprised by discovering the information in two stages.

The different choices of paper available

Flexible and economical or rigid and high quality: so that each professional can create the communication medium that best suits his or her needs and constraints, we offer you several choices of paper.

• 80g paper: light and flexible, this paper is appreciated for its economic aspect, but it is less resistant and therefore used more for large-scale communication, particularly for street-marketing operations.
• 135g paper: thicker but still relatively light, this paper is ideal for leaflets to be sent in envelopes as it saves on postage costs.
• 170g paper: a perfect compromise between a soft and a semi-hard paper, it guarantees a good hold on the document as well as a good grip. Its thickness is also sufficient to limit the effects of transparency.
• 250g paper: one of the stiffest papers available, this high quality paper makes it possible to produce advertising leaflets that last over time and can be handled easily without the risk of tearing.
• 400g paper: this is the highest quality paper available for printing A4 folders. Quite rigid, it offers a long-lasting result but is also more qualitative. Nevertheless, it is more expensive and therefore reserved for limited editions.

Good to know: if you opt for a minimum of 170 g paper, you can choose the creasing option, which consists of pre-folding your A4 leaflet using a machine before delivery. This is a trick that allows you to obtain a cleaner final fold that does not crack and thus retains its quality appearance.

Embellish your A4 leaflet with lamination

Would you like to enhance and embellish your A4 leaflet? COPYMAGE can apply a matt, glossy or soft-touch (peach skin effect) lamination to it. This option consists of applying a thin plastic layer to your medium in order to modify its appearance and affect the final result, while protecting it more from dust, UV and humidity.

• Glossy lamination: this offers excellent colour rendition, especially bright colours, and is ideal for leaflets containing many photos,
• Matte lamination: ideal for a sophisticated and modern look, it creates a surprise and lends itself perfectly to the creation of fairly chic media,
• Soft-touch lamination: combining a semi-matt finish with a peach-skin feel, it is particularly pleasant to hold thanks to its velvety touch.
