When you want to bind a multi-page document, there are several options. The stapled binding method is a solution that has many advantages and is ideal for producing presentation booklets, restaurant menus, magazines, brochures or product catalogues.
By stapled binding, printers mean binding pages together by inserting two metal staples in the centre fold. This method of binding is also called "double-stitch binding" or "saddle-stitch binding", emphasising the fact that the staples are "straddled" between two pages.
Let's take a look at the advantages of this binding method, the finishes compatible with stapled binding and its main uses.

At Copymage, when you want to bind a document with a stapled binding, we offer several standard formats: A4 (21 x 29.7 cm), A5 (14.8 x 21 cm), A6 (10.5 x 14.8 cm) and a square format 21 x 21 cm. However, you are free to order a brochure, a presentation leaflet or a report in the size of your choice. We will be delighted to make your support to measure.
Different paper weights are available. For your stapled bindings, we suggest that you choose a paper with a weight of between 80 and 135 g for the inside pages, and a higher weight, for example 170 g for the cover.
You can then choose between different types of paper: matt coated paper (elegant and formal) or glossy (ideal for highlighting illustrations and photographs).
In order to give your booklet or brochure protection and refinement, we suggest adding a lamination (matt, glossy, soft touch or peach touch). Finally, the application of a selective or 3D varnish on the cover will give your catalogue a very distinctive, high-end look.
There are many uses for stapled binding. At Copymage we offer two main categories of products that use this type of binding: magazines and booklets on the one hand and stapled brochures on the other. But behind this categorisation lies a wide range of possibilities:
Finally, the stapled binding method is ideal in many situations. Unfortunately, there is a limit to its use. It implies the respect of two constraints:
For documents that do not meet these constraints, other binding methods are possible:
It is only possible to use the stapled binding method if your document is longer than 4 pages and shorter than 40 pages. If your document is less than 4 pages long, we suggest that you choose a 1, 2 or 3-page leaflet, for example. If your document is longer than 40 pages, you should choose another binding method, such as a plastic or metal spiral, or the glued square back binding method.
In addition, your document should contain a number of pages that is a multiple of four. If this is not the case, but your document is less than 40 pages long, it is still possible to add one or two lined pages at the end of your brochure, which can be used by your customers to take some notes, for example.
