The kakemono (or personalised roll up) is a flexible and light means of distributing your visual communication according to your needs and desires.

Originally, the term kakemono in Japanese refers to a work of art (painting or calligraphy) made on silk or paper. This work has the particularity of being transported on a roll and then displayed on the wall thanks to thin wooden sticks that stretch it vertically.

Copymage consultants recommend this ingenious system to all companies, associations and retailers who wish to convey their graphic identity and essential messages in all circumstances.

We will look at how to use a kakemono in the best way, where and how to install it, but also how to take care of your kakemono to ensure it lasts as long as possible.

How to use a kakemono?

The customised kakemono or roll up is first and foremost a way of making yourself known in a certain way. By cleverly choosing the size of your logo to put on it, bright colours and a few key messages, this medium will allow you to be as visible among exhibitors at a trade show as by people walking in front of your shop.

This is the most obvious use: you want to be recognisable, identifiable at a glance, at a trade fair, a forum, a conference or a festival? Put up your kakemono!

  • It will be the vector of your graphic identity during all your business trips. It is an eye-catcher while providing textual and visual information.
  • Placed on the side of your stand, it will carry your company's main values and messages.
  • Using a kakemono will also allow you toreliably indicate your company's contact details, which will thus appear systematically on all the photos taken by your clients and prospects during the event in which you are participating. Think about reusing these photos in which your brand is clearly identified and highlighted in your electronic communications on social networks for example.

But the kakemono is not only a light and easily transportable medium, it is also a versatile means of local communication. Do you want to draw attention to your best products? Do you have a commercial operation to promote?

Using a kakemono at the entrance to your shop or in your window will give your messages visibility to all passers-by. Again, a few well-chosen pictograms and a selection of key messages will make your operation a marketing success. Depending on your specific needs, you can simply keep the structure and have Copymage's expert teams print new banners to highlight your current messages. You can then place them on the media and cleverly renew your visual communication while saving money.

How to install your kakemono?

Using a kakemono is child's play! Made up of a printed tarpaulin and an aluminium structure, your customised roll-up kakemono has a telescopic pole, removable feet and a roller. The success of the kakemono is due to the combination of two factors: its small size and its ease of installation.

The main advantage of the kakemono, compared to a poster for example, is its ease of storage and transport. Rolled up in its case, the banner is protected during all your movements. The transport case and its very low weight allow you to move easily through the aisles of a trade fair carrying your kakemono on your shoulder, to store it in the boot of your vehicle or to store it in your premises between two events. If you have several kakemonos, we advise you to stick a label specifying the visual or text of the kakemono on the cover. This will allow you to immediately identify the material you need when you leave for your event.

Once you have arrived at the conference or trade show venue, it is easy and quick to install your kakemono: no need to fix it to a wall or any other support with screws or other nails, as everything is integrated, you can adapt it to the space you have available as you wish and orient it according to the light sources. To use a kakemono in the best possible way, pay attention to the lighting: if the lighting is too weak, the content is not visible, and if the light source is too direct, the covering may shine and thus interfere with the reading.

When you have chosen the place where you want to install it: put the base on the ground, fix the pole before unrolling the banner that presents the visual and attaching it to the top of the support. In two minutes, your kakemono is impeccable: the canvas is taut, the support is stable, your messages are readable by all.

When you are ready to leave, detach the pole attachment, the banner will naturally roll up in the case, remove the pole which will find its place in the protective case. Once all the elements are stored in the carrying case, you are ready to fly to the next event.

How to maintain your kakemono?

Using a kakemono does not require any special care. Just like the customised advertising canvas, when unfolded the kakemono is resistant to sun, wind and rain. Its non-slip feet ensure that it is firmly attached to the ground and guarantee great stability. This means that you can display it outdoors without the risk of damage. Only extreme weather conditions could prevent you from using a kakemono and risk damaging it: strong winds would knock your kakemono to the ground and could crumple it, just as heavy rain could damage the aluminium structure. Don't put it through any weather you wouldn't want to endure yourself and it will stay beautiful!

When you want to use a kakemono, the strategic step is to unroll or roll up the banner. By handling it carefully, you will ensure the durability of your kakemono. Before putting it away, you can wipe the banner with a dry cloth to ensure that your kakemono is perfectly clean when you want to use it again. Then, once in its aluminium case, the banner will remain perfectly protected: it will stay dry, will not gather dust and will not be faded by light. You will find it intact at the next event!
